After redesigning the Expedition line-up for 2007 and at the same time lowering the price by some dollars, Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, along with an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. Four trim levels are available: the entry-level XLT, the outdoor-styled Eddie Bauer, luxurious Limited, and the new top-of-the-line King Ranch. The manufacturer has given importance to both the exterior and the interior segment.
Exterior Look
This third-generation Expedition features a three-bar grille, large headlights and a domed hood that combines to deliver a look that's both distinctive and respectable. Both the long and regular-length versions of the Expedition models have many components that can be found in the Ford F-150 pickup. Seventeen-inch wheels are standard, but if you want you can opt for 18 and 20-inch wheels. The new King Ranch model can be identified by its gold exterior accents and unique wheel design. The exterior body comes in beautiful shades of color such as White Suede Clearcoat, White Sand Tri-Coat Metallic, Vapor Silver Clearcoat Metallic, Stone Green Clearcoat Metallic, Redfire Clearcoat Metallic, Pueblo Gold Clearcoat Metallic, Oxford White Clearcoat, Dark Copper Clearcoat Metallic, Dark Blue Pearl Clearcoat Metallic and Black Clearcoat.
Engine That Promises Powerful Ride
All Expeditions are powered by a 5.4-liter V8 that produces 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. The engine has been mated with a standard six-speed automatic transmission to make the most out of it. Even though the Expedition handles well and is fairly nimble and responsive for a vehicle its size, which is one of the reasons it remains popular in todays tight fuel economy conditions. The fuel economy for both the rear and front wheel drive is 12 miles per gallon in the city and 18 miles per gallon on the highways. For the New Year line-up, the manufacturer should really work on this segment.
Spacious Interior
The inside cabin has been designed to accommodate up to nine occupants across three rows of seats. The inside segment has been done in beautiful shades of color such as camel leather, a combination of camel or gray stone leather and charcoal black or camel leather. With the help of the independent rear suspension, the third-row seat can be easily folded down flat into the floor whenever more cargo space is required. The users like the latest bucket seats a lot. The second row can be either a 40/20/40-split bench seat or two captain's chairs. There is ample legroom and headroom for adults along with reclining backrests.
Entertainment On The Road
The XLT models have a 160-watt radio/CD player with six speakers, while all other trims are equipped with a 340-watt audio player with a subwoofer. SIRIUS ® satellite radio is optional and a rear seat DVD Video system with wireless headphones is an option for all the trims. The available Rear Seat DVD Entertainment System is just the perfect system for people who love to watch movies or have gaming fun while traveling. It provides hours of enjoyment, especially during a long trip. The system comes with an 8" LCD monitor and 2 sets of wireless headphones along with a remote control. Moreover, the DVD-based navigation system with sizable 6.5-inch screen is available on all models but as an optional feature.
Safety Equipments
Beyond a number of standard features and options, the new Ford Expedition SUV models also have an extensive range of safety features that has added to its popularity in the market. The AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control keeps a track upon the driver's input, road conditions and slippage, so that it delivers the right torque where it's needed. While driving on slippery surfaces, it will provide you with the much-needed confidence. With the new Rear View Camera, you have a clear picture of what's behind your vehicle. Moreover, you can rely on the new Expedition vehicle fully, as it has received the highest 5-star frontal crash test rating for the driver and right front passenger from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for eight years.
